CSX’s newest heritage locomotive commemorates the proud history of the Western Maryland Railway, which formed in 1852! The Western Maryland was a small but mighty railroad that hauled coal and freight in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania before merging with the B&O and C&O to eventually become part of CSX as we know it today. Roll out! CSX Locomotive 1877 honoring the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad has officially joined our heritage fleet. The C&EI Railroad, founded in 1877, played a critical role connecting Chicago with southern Illinois, St. Louis, Mo., and Evansville, Ind., during the expansive growth of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Part of the C&EI's Evansville line was eventually sold to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad which ultimately became part of the modern CSX network. #ONECSX | CSX
